As you all may know, we lost a gem in this music industry today…. the Queen of Soul….. Ms. Aretha Franklin. The news of her passing has touched everyone across the globe, as many share their good memories of her and her music. It was announced just a couple of days ago that Franklin was gravely ill, however, many prayed that she would be able to fight this and hang in there. The singer was however battling cancer and passed away this morning in her Detroit home.
The passing was announced by Franklin’s longtime publicist Gwendolyn Quinn in a statement that read:
“In one of the darkest moments of our lives, we are not able to find the appropriate words to express the pain in our heart. We have lost the matriarch and rock of our family. The love she had for her children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins knew no bounds.”
The family went on to add, “We have been deeply touched by the incredible outpouring of love and support we have received from close friends, supporters, and fans all around the world. Thank you for your compassion and prayers. We have felt your love for Aretha and it brings us comfort to know that her legacy will live on. As we grieve, we ask that you respect our privacy during this difficult time.”
As of right now, there are no funeral arrangements, however they will be announced when everything is set. Of course there will be lots of tributes being held beforehand as well. There are so many people that loved this Queen out there, especially the city where she’s from. Her legacy will forever live on and she may be gone but she will never be forgotten. Rest well Ms. Franklin.
